Basic Element: Artificial Neuron.

An artificial neuron is an element with inputs, output and memory that may be implemented with software or hardware. It has inputs (I) that are weighted added and compared with a threshold (t).

The computed signal (s) is taking as argument of a non-linear function (f) that may have different shapes. The Sigmoid function is the most popular one. Here are few examples.
