The diaper/beer example: A famous case about consumer behavior.

A popular case happened in a grocery chain in USA. Using Data Mining software to
study the behavior of their customers, interesting relationships were found
between diapers, beers, gender of the buyer, and day of the week.

They found that on Thursdays and Saturdays males who buy diapers also buy beers.
Such information that isn't evident at first look may be used to relocate the
merchandises to more strategic places, in this example, keeping diapers and
beers close to each other.

Also this result delivered by a Data Mining process may be further analyzed by
human experts. If they find a reasonable explanation it will surely help
corporate executives in reaching their goals in a more efficient way.
